Meet Our Guides
Ricardo Gonzalez:
Ricardo is the owner of
Caribbean Rovers, an independent Land Rover repair and maintenance shop, and the parent company of
Caribbean Rovers Expeditions. His love of Land Rovers is obvious by the success of his 6 year old business. His ability as an off-road and expedition driver is demonstrated by his certification as an off-road driving trainer by the International 4-Wheel Drive Trainers’ Association, a prestigious institution that raises the level of driving and off-road recovery ability and safety to the highest levels. Ricardo’s business holds major Land Rover driving events in Puerto Rico each year, and he spends time expeditioning and camping in places like Colorado, Utah, Minnesota, and Vermont.
Ricardo holds a
BBA from the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, he successfully completed the
US Coast Guard Auxiliary’s Boating Skills & Seamanship (BS&S) course, is a member of the
Land Rover Solihull Society, as well as the
Military Vehicle Preservation Foundation.
His love for, and knowledge of Land Rovers is surpassed only by his love for, and knowlege of his homeland -
The Island of Enchantment -
Puerto Rico.
Nate Kennedy:
Nate is an
Expedition and Outdoor Photographer when he’s not guiding tours for Caribbean Rovers Expeditions. He has a Wilderness Medicine background, and is an extreme Land Rover afficionado. His own expedition-ready 1995 Discovery I takes him deep in to the forests of northern Minnesota, his home state, to find the perfect camping spot for the perfect photograph. Nate has been across the US on countless camping and expedition trips. He’s travelled to California, Utah, Colorado, Oregon, Minnesota, Maine, to name a few. He has completed the Lake Superior Circle Tour three times (1,700 miles of back-country camping in the US and Canada, circling Lake Superior). When it comes to Land Rover expedition travel and luxury camping, Nate knows how to do it right.
Nate has held a Wilderness First Responder certification, acted as the webmaster (and an active member) of the Minnesota Land Rover Club, and has had multiple articles and photographs published in international Land Rover and outdoor magazines.
As a native Minnesotan, when problems come up, Nate says: “Is there snow? No? Then there’s
no problem!”
Meet Our Vehicles
Land Rovers: The last ‘Working Dream Machines’ -Alain Hoffman
We exclusively use Land Rover vehicles for our tours for several reasons. Primarily, we think they’re the most capable and reliable off-road and expedition vehicles. Secondarily, they provide an immediate sense of adventure in an otherwise over-regulated and structured world. And finally, because they are downright cool, and we love them with all of our passion.
Land Rovers are recognized the world over as the premium mode of transportation for safari and expedition travel - anybody riding in one of these vehicles must be going somewhere exotic. Or at least they could be, if they wanted to. They transport a traveler back to a time when not all roads were asphalt - the very roads we seek on our tours. Each of our Land Rovers sees a sunrise as a beautiful challenge to the spirit, and each is capable of delivering the inaccessible.
Note: The above text draws heavily from the wise words of Alain Hoffman in his article, The Land Rover Cult.
Our current fleet includes:
1987 Land Rover Defender 110
Purchased in Maine, and restored to near-original specifications from the frame-up, this is the vehicle that most clearly represents Land Rover as an expedition vehicle. It is a workhorse: a people and equipment hauler through the harshest of terrain. When people think of safari travel in Africa, this is the vehicle that comes to mind, and for good reason.
1997 Land Rover Defender 90
The smaller, more nimble, sibling to the Defender 110, this vehicle can tackle any of the world’s terrain alongside it’s big brother, sometimes with more ease because of its lighter weight.
